Alexander Zharovsky: He needs to dominate at the Future Cup

Alexander Zharovsky is starting to find his rhythm in the KHL, and the timing couldn't be better.

The Canadiens prospect had a slightly tougher start to the season than expected, but he now appears to have regained his scoring touch. In particular, he has tallied ten points in his last seven games, including two against Lada Togliatti.

As reported by Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, the young forward is now set to represent Russia at the Future Cup, which will take place November 5–8 in Saint Petersburg.

And personally, I really hope he gets a key role during this tournament. Because Zharovsky has a golden opportunity to prove he's “THE guy.” He's a promising prospect for the CH with a very high ceiling.

After all, we're talking about a player who's already playing in the KHL at just 19 years old. He regularly faces off against adult players and is starting to show that he can produce offensively on a consistent basis in a professional league.

That's no small feat.

Of course, not everything has been perfect since the start of the season. Notably, Zharovsky lost his spot on the first power-play unit a few weeks ago, and his ice time has at times been less than one might have hoped.

But his recent run shows that he's capable of bouncing back.

Now, I'm especially looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish against players his own age.

The Future Cup isn't the World Junior Championship, let's be clear. The level of competition will be different, but that doesn't change the fact that Zharovsky needs to take advantage of this opportunity to stand out.

I'd like to see him get significant ice time, be used on the first power-play unit, and become one of his team's offensive catalysts.

In short, I want him to be the one his teammates turn to when Russia needs a big goal. With his talent and KHL experience, he certainly has what it takes to shoulder that kind of responsibility.

It will also be a great opportunity for Habs fans to see how he fares in a potentially more prominent role. Because beyond the statistics, it's his ability to take charge that interests me most.

Zharovsky has enormous potential. Now, I'd like to see him demonstrate it by being one of the best players in this tournament.
